Prayers at the time of the Queen's death

It is with Sadness that we announce the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

———

ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, we remember before thee all thy servants who have served thee faithfully in their generation, and have entered into rest, especially ELIZABETH, our Queen;

beseeching thee to give us grace so to follow in her steps, that with her we may be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O ALMIGHTY God, who willest to be glorified in thy Saints, and didst raise up thy servant ELIZABETH, our Queen, to shine as a light in the world: Shine, we pray thee, in our hearts, that we also in our generation may show forth thy praises, who hast called us out of darkness into thy marvelous light; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O MERCIFUL God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the resurrection and the life; in whom whosoever believeth shall live, though he die; and whosoever liveth, and believeth in him, shall not die eternally; who also hath taught us (by his holy Apostle Saint Paul) not to be sorry, as men without hope, for them that sleep in Jesus: We meekly beseech thee, O Father, to raise us from the death of sin unto the life of righteousness; that, when we shall depart this life, we may rest in him, as our hope is this our Queen, ELIZABETH doth; and that, at the Resurrection in the last day, we with her may receive that blessing, which thy well-beloved Son shall then pronounce to all that love and fear thee, saying, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: Grant this, we beseech thee, O merciful Father, through Jesus Christ, our Mediator and Redeemer. Amen.

Prayer for the King, Charles III

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, we are taught by thy holy Word, that the hearts of Kings are in thy rule and governance, and that thou dost dispose and turn them as it seemeth best to thy godly wisdom: We humbly beseech thee so to dispose and govern the heart of CHARLES thy servant, our King and Governor, that in all his thoughts, words, and works, he may ever seek thy honour and glory, and study to preserve thy people committed to his charge, in wealth, peace, and godliness: Grant this, O merciful Father, for thy dear Son’s sake, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY God, whose kingdom is everlasting, and power infinite: Have mercy upon the whole Church; and so rule the heart of thy chosen servant CHARLES, our King and Governor, that he, knowing whose minister he is, may above all things seek thy honour and glory: and that we and all his subjects, duly considering whose authority he hath, may faithfully serve, honour, and humbly obey him, in thee, and for thee, according to thy blessed Word and ordinance; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with thee and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth, ever one God, world without end. Amen

Responding with Christ’s Love to Catastrophic Flooding in Pakistan

A colorful sea of saris and headscarves surrounds our church partner at an emergency food distribution in Pakistan. The 300 families represented here are in desperate need of sustenance, safe water, and shelter as a different kind of ‘sea’ ravages their homes and livelihoods: severe flooding—in some places, as far as the eye can see.

Overwhelming monsoon rains have caused catastrophic flooding unseen in recent history. Rivers have consumed surrounding farmland. Extreme precipitation has submerged houses and roads. More than 1,100 people have died, and thousands more are injured. Many millions of survivors are without basic needs.

Your prayerful generosity can help keep these men, women, and children alive in the aftermath, giving them hope in Jesus’ Name as we distribute emergency food, drinking water, and shelter materials.

“I am so thankful for your generosity and your contribution in this initiative…to stand on your behalf as a global Body of Christ, to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in this very village,” said our partner.

Launch of the O’Driscoll Forum’ on May 31, 2022

To whom it may concern: Calgary area Anglican Churches

I am one of a committee in Calgary who has worked with others in our local Anglican churches to promote the work and legacy of the Reverend Herbert O’Driscoll (and his wife Paula). Both of them were very much a part of our community when he was the priest at Christchurch during the 1980’s and Paula was very involved in promoting the liturgical arts.

Others may know Herb through his writings, or his many hymns which are found in our hymnals; also, together they have led groups abroad. particularly to Israel and Ireland to expand our understanding of the heritage of our Christian faith.

Utilizing whatever means you have available to you, would you be willing to announce to your congregations the ‘Launch of the O’Driscoll Forum’ on May 31/22.  This event is in collaboration with the Vancouver School of Theology and is available on line at the following site:

https://vst.edu/event/online-launch-of-the-odriscoll-forum/

This site is now open where you can get the information required. It also refers to the option of contributing to this effort so that the forum will become a summer school event, we hope for many years to come. Calgary contributors have already raised beyond our expectations!

Thank you for your willingness to consider this effort. The local committee includes myself, John McWilliams. Robert Pynn, Gillian Bowles and Frits Pannekoek.

Sincerely, Bryan Cummings, MD (ret'd)

The Difference Course May 15 - June 19

Please see the message below and attached poster for information on an upcoming course.

----

Good morning all,

On behalf of Hannah Wygiera, our Provincial Synod Youth Delegate, I am forwarding her endorsement of the Difference Course. Please share this information, particularly among the youth of your parish.

Blessings, Carol Tubman

After attending Provincial Synod as a youth delegate, I was inspired to connect the youth of our diocese by running the Difference course. This course was created by the Archbishop of Canterbury's Reconciliation Ministries and explores what it means to follow Jesus in a complex and divided world, seeing transformation through everyday encounters. While this course is not specifically designed for any one age group, I would like to offer it to the youth of the diocese.

The youth of today are incredibly active in seeking change. They are the loudest voices searching for answers. This course will explore how to pursue reconciliation in the name of Jesus. This course will be available for ages 16-25 and will be offered on Zoom on Sunday evenings at 7 pm, starting on May 15.

There are 5 sessions: God's Call, Crossing Divides, Navigating Disagreement, Practising Forgiveness, and Risking Hope. Each session includes films, Bible readings, prayer, and discussion. It seeks to develop three habits for participants to start applying in their own lives: Be Curious, Be Present, and Reimagine. Reconciliation is a process and through these sessions we will explore the possibilities to the question of "What would life be like if...?"
